The Malay (Bahasa Melayu) Language
Its 33 million speakers make Bahasa Melayu the official language of Malaysia. It is spoken in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, and other parts of Indonesia and Malaysia. Malay is also an official language in Singapore and Brunei. The Malay language probably originated on the island of Sumatra some 1200 years ago.
